VALEDICTORY FUNCTION OF ROAD SAFETY AWARENESS SUMMER CAMP FOR SCHOOL CHILDREN

The valedictory function of the Road Safety Awareness Summer Camp for School Children was held at the Institute of Driver Training and Research at Sarai Kale Khan on 30th June 2015. Sh. B.S. Bassi, Commissioner of Police, Delhi graced the occasion as Chief Guest. Senior Delhi Traffic Police Officials and other dignitaries were also present on the occasion. The valedictory function was held with a view to acknowledge the cooperation and participation of various NGOs and corporate houses in the road safety awareness summer camps organized by Delhi Traffic Police, in 6 batches of 5 days duration each from 18th May 2015 to 26th June 2015 at the five Traffic Training Parks situated at Baba Kharak Singh Marg, Bal Bhawan, Pragati Maidan, Punjabi Bagh and RoshanaraBagh.

Delhi Traffic Police had come up with this unique idea of organizing road safety awareness summer camp for the benefit of school students from class VI to XII with the dual objective of helping children in utilizing their summer vacation in a meaningful way and learn some life skill techniques in an enjoyable manner which will have a bearing on their personality in the years to come. The course contents of the summer camp was designed to inculcate good road safety habits in the students which in turn will help them grow up into sensible, sensitive and responsible road users. The summer camp was purely free of cost and the participating students were provided daily refreshments. Each student was awarded with a certificate of participation on the conclusion of the summer camp. Many competitions such as Painting Competition, Quiz Competition and Slogan Writing Competition were held among the participants and awards were given to the participants.

On the occasion of the valedictory function quiz competition on topics relating to road safety, first aid, disaster management, etc were held among the toppers (participants of the summer camp) of the Quiz Competition in each batch in each park and the best team was awarded with prizes. The runners up teams were also felicitated. The Traffic Training Park which gave the winning team was awarded the Rolling Trophy for being the best park.

The Road Safety Awareness Summer camp received an overwhelming response from the participating students and appreciation from all quarters. We look forward to continuing progress with our next summer camp.
